Hull Truck Theatre

Northern Trawl was a verbatim theatre project written by Rupert Creed and directed by Kate Bramley. It told the stories of Hull Arctic Trawlermen and described their lives as they were in the ’70s. The authenticity of the design was crucial, as many of the audience were trawlermen and their families, to aid this many props and costumes were genuine, sourced from the fishing community.

Ruth and Kate Bramley started at Hull Truck straight from Hull University, where they studied drama. Their first production was Romeo and Juliet, followed by Educating Rita. Ruth then went on to work with John Godber, designing The Glass Menagerie and the premier of On a Night Like This.
