About

Ruth is a stage and costume designer working across theatre, opera, music and dance. She trained on the Motley Theatre Design Course and is based in London. 

Community engagement forms part of Ruth’s practice and she has designed many large-scale community operas for the Royal Ballet and Opera, Opera North, English National Opera, English Touring Opera, Garsington Opera and the Grange Festival. She is Design Artist for Learning and Participation at the Royal Ballet and Opera where she leads on the annual Design Challenge Programme. 

Designs for opera and dance include productions for the Royal Ballet and Opera Youth Opera Company, Longborough Festival Opera, Princeton University, I Fagiolini, the Academy of Ancient Music, Abu Dhabi National Theatre and the Philharmonia at the Royal Festival Hall. She enjoys collaborations with orchestras including the City of London Sinfonia and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Theatre designs include work for Hull Truck, the National Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, Wonderful Beast Theatre Company and the Oxford School of Drama. 

Puppet designs include work as Associate Artist with Blind Summit, designing and making shows over a period of 8 years including collaborations with Improbable, Bregenz Festival, Spoleto Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (Fringe First Award) and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl.
